Judi Coey |
Optometrist
Judi graduated from QUT in 1989 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Optometry. She started her career in Central Queensland with her husband Ken, servicing Mackay and the surrounding mining towns. In 2002 the Coey’s sold up everything to live on a catamaran and sail the east coast of Australia with their three children. Judi managed to work as a locum optometrist between sailing, schooling the two eldest children and changing nappies.
In 2006, the family bought a 50-acre property in Maleny where they started up a cattle farm called Maleny Wagyu. Since establishing herself here, Judi has spent the last 10 years working as an optometrist in Maleny as well as immersing herself in local book clubs, the Maleny Business Network Group, the chaplaincy committee and previously the P&C committee at Maleny State High School.
Judi is a member of the Optical Association of Australia and is strongly committed to continuing education and attends a number of courses each year in addition to many training modules. Judi’s particular interests in optometry are in eye health, pathology, paediatric vision care and low vision.
Outside of optometry Judi loves sailing with family and friends when she gets the chance. She also enjoys skiing (although she is still perfecting her skills) and traveling. Other interests of hers include keeping fit, exploring the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and catching up with family and friends.
Recently Judi completed the Ocular Therapeutics course through the Australian College of Optometry in Melbourne. This has enabled her to treat and manage eye diseases such as glaucoma, conjunctivitis, herpes keratitis and many more.
Rebecca Lawrence |
Optometrist
Rebecca has been a Sunshine Coast local since 2007. She lives on the range with her husband and 3 beautiful daughters.
Rebecca graduated from QUT with honours in 2002 and has a special interest in nutritional support for holistic health and quality vision for life.
Rebecca loves hiking, spending time at the beach and sourcing fresh locally produced good.
Heidi Becker | Optometrist
Heidi graduated from QUT in 2008 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Hons) in Optometry. She started her career in Western Australia, working between Bunbury on the south west coast and Collie, to the east. After several years she and husband Chris returned to Queensland where she continued practicing in Wide Bay. She has been a local of the Blackall Ranges since 2011 and has worked as an optometrist on the Sunshine Coast and at Morayfield since this time.
Prior to her career as an optometrist, Heidi worked for many years as a Plant Pathologist with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, specialising in diseases of fruit and vegetable crops in several regional areas of Queensland.
In her spare time Heidi still enjoys all things botanical, involving herself in local community events with her husband and 2 teenage children, and playing the piano.
Anna| Reception/Optical Dispensing
Anna is a Maleny local and joined us in February 2021. Born in Maleny, Anna and her husband have cherished raising their children in her home town. Anna is loving being a part of the Judi Coey Optometry family and really enjoys helping our clients to find their perfect eyewear.
Anna completed her Cert IV in Optical Dispensing in 2023.
Anna’s other interests include cycling, camping, skiing, motorbike riding and spending time with her family and friends.
Jane| Reception/Optical Dispensing
Jane moved to Maleny in 2020 from Brookfield, Brisbane with her husband Brett. They love living in our picturesque town.
Jane’s favourite pastimes are planning holidays to visit her family and friends around the world and looking after their beautiful property.
Marie | Reception/Optical Dispensing
Marie joined the Judi Coey Optometry team in February 2024.
Originally from the UK, Marie moved to Australia 16 years ago and moved to Maleny in 2023.
Marie has worked in the health industry previously but this is her first time at an Optometrist.
She has a friend that always told her that working at an optometrist would be right down her ally… and when Marie gave it a go, she decided she loved it too.
Marie’s favourite pastimes are gardening (she loves flowers!), golf and of course playing with her grandchildren.

Brooke G | Reception/Optical Dispensing
Brooke joined us in 2026 with a long history of optical dispensing.
Brooke lives on the coast and loves travelling up the mountain to come to work.

Brooke has been living on the Sunshine Coast for nearly a decade and Maleny holds a special place in her heart as it is where she got engaged!
Outside of work she enjoys riding motorbikes with her partner throughout Maleny and the hinterland, spending time with her dogs, staying active, reading, building lego or challenging herself to complete a 1000 piece puzzle in a day.
She brings over a decade of experience in the eyecare industry with a background in management, optical dispensing and co-ordinating surgeries for ophthalmologists.
Brooke is passionate about helping people with their eyecare and eyewear journey ensuring they feel supported while finding the best solutions for their vision, lifestyle and individual needs.
